Communication and Consensus Co-Design for Distributed, Low-Latency, and Reliable Wireless Systems

Designing distributed, fast, and reliable wireless consensus protocols is instrumental in enabling mission-critical decentralized systems, such as robotic networks the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), drone swarms rescue missions, so forth. However, chasing both low-latency reliability a challenging task. The problem aggravated under connectivity that may be slower less reliable, compared to wired connections. To tackle this issue, we investigate fundamental relationships between latency through lens connectivity, co-design communication for systems. Specifically, propose novel communication-efficient distributed protocol, termed random representative (R2C), show its effectiveness gossip broadcast protocols. end, derive closed-form end-to-end (E2E) expression R2C guarantees target reliability, compare it with baseline referred referendum (RC). result shows faster RC more when co-designed protocol protocol.
